                              <p>A couple of weeks ago, W3C has released a <a href="http://www.w3.org/2007/10/sw-logos">few logos for the Semantic Web</a>. </p>

<p><img src="http://www.w3.org/Icons/SW/sw-horz-w3c.png" alt="semantic web" title="The new Semantic Web logo" /></p>

<p>As usual, in the open Web, the information went out a bit quickly. The usage policy on the logos is too restrictive for the <a href="http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/">Semantic Web</a> community. They expressed it in a really entertaining way. The policy says:</p>

<blockquote>
  <p>The logo may not be used to disparage W3C, its Member organizations, services, or products.</p>
</blockquote>

<p>Hey, that leaves a lot of room for parody! Semantic Web hackers prove once again that they have a lot of humor.</p>

<ul>
<li><a href="http://burningbird.net/">Shelley Powers</a> created a <a href="http://burningbird.net/technology/the-semantic-web-gots-badges/">tasty one with the Semantic Web logo</a> running after the microformats logo.</li>
<li><a href="http://dannyayers.com/">Danny Ayers</a> played with a <a href="http://dannyayers.com/2007/10/16/gladiator">shy blue man</a>. It made me think about the roman empire troops tactic: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testudo_formation">testudo</a>. He made another version with <a href="http://dannyayers.com/2007/10/18/sparql-rules-for">his kitty</a>. The cat is out of the box.</li>
<li><a href="http://gridinoc.name/b.noise/">Laurian Gridinoc</a> made a <a href="http://gridinoc.name/b.noise/2007/10/semantic-web-logo.html">headache version of the famous cubic game</a>. I wondered if someone tried to create to solve the cube with owl rules.</li>
<li><a href="http://bitworking.org/">Joe Gregorio</a> goes underwater and <a href="http://bitworking.org/news/256/Semantic-Terms-of-Use">dive into the mysteries of la<del>w</del>yers</a>.</li>
</ul>

<p><a href="http://www.w3.org/People/Jacobs/">Ian Jacobs</a> will send an email to the <a href="http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/semantic-web/">Semantic Web mailing-list</a> with the <strong>new policy</strong> this week. We listened your comments and we opened the box, but <strong>you</strong> will tell us what you think about it.</p>

<p><strong>Update 23 October 2007</strong>: The <a href="http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/semantic-web/2007Oct/0244">new policy for Semantic Web logos</a> has been proposed to the semanticweb mailing-list. Do you have a comment? Answer on the thread or here in the comments.</p>
